30 May,2023
Achieved Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon neutrality at NSK's headquarters and R&D facilities in China in fiscal 2022, a first for NSK globally.
By 2035, NSK further aims to achieve carbon neutrality (Scope 1/2) at all sites in China and globally, including manufacturing.
NSK has achieved Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon neutrality at NSK's China headquarters, NSK China Investment Co. By 2035, we aim to achieve Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon neutrality at all of our sites in China and globally, including at all manufacturing plants.
On April 24, the Shanghai Environmental Energy Exchange Carbon Neutral Operation Center awarded NSK China headquarters and R&D facilities with Scope 1 and Scope 2 “Carbon Neutral Certificates” for fiscal 2022.
This is the first time globally that NSK has achieved Scope 1 and Scope 2 “Carbon Neutral” status.
Background
As part of its corporate philosophy, NSK has long pursued protecting the global environment, and in recent years has been enhancing efforts and promoting ESG management throughout the NSK Group.
In NSK's Mid-Term Management Plan that began in fiscal 2022, NSK has set the goal of achieving Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon neutrality (virtually zero CO2 emissions) by 2035, and through technology development, production, and environmentally friendly products and services, we will contribute to the realization of a carbon neutral society.
In China, NSK has been accelerating the reduction of CO2 emissions by installing solar panels, switching to electricity derived from renewable energy sources, introducing high-efficiency production equipment, and utilizing energy-efficient air conditioning and lighting.
Comment from Yu Guoping, President & CEO of NSK China:
The achievement of Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon neutrality by NSK China headquarters and R&D facilities in fiscal 2022 is just the first step toward carbon neutrality of NSK globally. We will continue to strengthen our efforts to achieve a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2026 compared to fiscal 2017, and to achieve carbon neutrality at all of NSK plants in China and otherwise by 2035.
NSK China is additionally supporting business partners to achieve carbon neutrality through NSK technological capabilities, thereby promoting the transformation to a low-carbon economy and contributing to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable society.
